Former President and Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari gave a very harsh speech

Former President and Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari gave a very harsh speech yesterday about the military establishment of Pakistan. He said that the army generals don’t have such a long tenure but the political parties are here to stay. He said that the politicians have a better idea of how to run the country.

He also threatened that if the debasing of political parties did not stop he would come forward and name accused generals of Pakistan. Zardari said that he does not want to weaken the military establishment but they should also try not to create obstacles for politicians. The army and politicians should stand together. But he suggested that army should stop interfering in political matters.

Zardari also said that his party was a firm supporter of democracy. That is why he was supporting PML-N. He claims if he had joined Imran Khan in his protest, the government would have been forced to conduct elections. But he wanted the government to complete their tenure. He said that he isn’t impatient like some people. He can wait for the right time.

Speaking of his political endeavors he said that the Eighteen Amendment was a great achievement in the history of the country’s democracy. He also lashed out at General (R) Pervaiz Musharaf, saying that he doesn’t know the dangers which Pakistan faces. If Musharaf had any idea he wouldn’t have said such things. He said that he did five years’ time in jail during Musharaf’s government while Musharaf is fearful of spending a few months in jail.

Zardari claims that if his party protested, it would not only affect Sindh but the entire country would come to a standstill.

Many politicians have condemned Zardari’s inappropriate remarks about military establishment. Chaudry Nisar, the federal interior minister says that Zardari is attacking a sensitive institution to cover up his own corruption. The minister also said that it is ill-fated that these remarks from Zardari came at such a time when our soldiers are sacrificing their lives for the sake of the nation, to eliminate terrorism. He also Zardari should not blame any institution for the downfall of his party.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also said that it isn’t appropriate to make such remarks about the military establishment at such at such a critical time. The army is backed by the entire nation. At the moment they are playing a very crucial role in fighting terrorism and establishing peace in the country.
